Kangaroo Island is located southwest of Adelaide, with its closest point to the mainland being Snapper Point in Backstairs Passage, 13.5km from the Fleurieu Peninsula. Kangaroo Island is 4,405 km2 and is the third largest island in Australia. It has approximately 4,500 residents. The Local Government Association is Kangaroo Island Council.
